After a few nights spent coding and reading documents, I have made available a test version of rs200_decode that uses PulseAudio for audio input. The program uses the microphone to receive information from Polar RS200, S410 and S510 watches.

The need for this has arisen because in the latest version of Ubuntu, 10.10 aka maverick, there is no OSS interface enabled by default. The OSS interface was providing /dev/dsp that rs200_decode has been using.
